Why an Approved Timesheet Can Show Missing Attendance Even When It Is Configured Not To Allow Incomplete Submissions

An approved timesheet can show a missing attendance entry later if a time off request that originally completed the timesheet is changed retroactively.

When a timesheet policy is configured to automatically submit and approve timesheets, the timesheet still needs to be complete at the time of submission. If all required attendance or time off entries are present at that point, the automatic submission and approval can complete successfully.

However, a later change to a time off request can affect what you see for that already-approved period.

For example:

  • An employee has an approved time off request covering July 27th to July 31st.
  • At the time the timesheet is automatically submitted and approved, July 27th is considered time off, so there is no missing entry.
  • The time off request is later changed to start on July 28th instead.
  • This retroactively removes the time off entry from July 27th.
  • The timesheet can then show missing attendance for July 27th, even though it was complete when it was originally submitted and approved.

If you notice missing attendance on an already-approved timesheet, check via the Time Off Request History report if a time off request covering that period was edited after the timesheet was approved.
