Good news – there isn't a strict character limit for open text fields.
You can enter over 1 million characters, just like with text area fields.

We are preparing for YE process and finalizing review templates. Based on our experience from last year’s process, character limit could actually be beneficial. Is it possible to set a limit to open text fields?

Hi, hopefully support would know, I haven’t run across any functionalities that would allow admins to set character limits to open text fields in talent reviews.
