New manager cannot access old manager's performance reviews

To allow a new manager to view the reviews from their direct report's previous manager, the following steps are necessary:

  • Ensure they have permission to "See reviews of direct and indirect reports" within the Managers permission group under People's data > Reviews.

  • Access the reviews through Talent > Performance > People's reviews

    • instead of "My reviews," as this is only for those completed by the manager themselves.

    • Additional guidance is available in our Help Center article "View people’s timelines and reviews"

  • If the reviews remain unsubmitted and the previous manager is inactive, admins can attempt recovery by deleting the termination row from the manager's profile to temporarily reactivate them.

  • This allows admins to log in as the manager to either submit the reviews or save the responses as a PDF.

  • Afterward, the admin should re-terminate the previous manager through the termination flow.

Hi, we need our new manager to be able to see the previous reviews of their team, but do not want them to see reviews of indirect reports… is it possible to only give them access to their direct reports?

Hi - I would like to know the same please. We also don’t want all managers to get access to direct and indirect reports.

 Hi @Jessica Triggs & @Gemma Ashley

You can create a new custom permission group for Manager, and in the access rights ensure that the permissions granted are only based on the condition Reports to is viewer:

This permission means that the Members of the permission group, will only see permissions granted for those that report to them directly

Hi,

I’m not sure if there is already a thread regarding my question or even a solution but maybe you can help me with this.

How can we configure the system so that, after a manager change, the new manager has access to the previous performance assessments of their direct reports? Or is this not possible? At the moment, the only solution we see is to export the assessments as PDF files and provide them to the new manager.

Thanks in advance, kind regards 😎

Andrea

Hi @Andrea Reisinger

That’s exactly what this Hack is all about 😀

To configure the system so that a new manager can access the previous performance assessments of their direct reports, you need to ensure that the permission "See reviews of direct and indirect reports" is enabled for the new manager. This can be done by navigating to System Settings > Account > Permission groups > Managers > People's data > Reviews. Once this permission is enabled, the new manager can access the reviews through Talent > Performance > People's reviews

If the performance review cycle has ended and the previous manager is inactive, you cannot replace the manager in a closed cycle. However, you can temporarily reactivate the previous manager by deleting the termination row from their profile, allowing an admin to log in as the previous manager to submit the reviews or save them as a PDF. Afterward, the admin should re-terminate the previous manager through the termination flow.

Exporting assessments as PDF files is not necessary if the permissions are correctly set up, as the new manager should be able to view the reviews directly in the system.

Hi everyone,

!--startfragment>

We are currently going through some line manager transitions within the business and would like to ensure continuity in employee support. Is there a way for new managers to access historical 1-on-1 records in Bob to help avoid any duplication or repeated conversations for the employee?

Any guidance would be much appreciated — thank you! !--endfragment>

Thanks Seema

Hi @Seema Jumani

Currently only the employee, their direct line manager, and system admins can access 1-on-1s within Bob. When a manager changes, the new manager does not gain access to historical 1-on-1s from the previous manager. 🤓

However, I understand this has been on the roadmap for a while now. Please can you advise when is this change planned for implementation and go live. Regards, Seema

Hi @Seema Jumani

I can see that it is on the roadmap for the future with the hopes of prioritization for 2026. No further details at the moment and no date defined.

Crossing fingers for more updates soon 🤞🏼

It would help to get some definitive timescales on this topic, like I said in my previous message, it seems that there are several threads open regarding this matter and all keep referring to either it being in the pipeline or being deferred. Please can you find out some definitive dates from the relevant teams and advise. Thanks, Seema

Hi All,

I can see this thread was 6 months ago, so wanted to ask in hear if anything has changed?

Looking at the initial mention this is for reviews only, I believe goals already move across to the new manager, but the 1on1’s is the part that is a sticking point. If someone has previously had a case or has information from another manager without Admin having to download a PFD of all the conversations, how do we ensure continuity and history visible to the new manager.

As above a timeline within the road map would be helpful to manage expectations, It would be great to know how bob currently manage this functionality for its colleagues with new managers.
