How content collections work for course provider integrations (Go1, Udemy, LinkedIn Learning)

When we integrate with a course provider in Learning feature (like Go1, Udemy, or LinkedIn Learning), the system automatically creates a default collection with all the courses included in our package that can be accessed in the Learning Library.

Meanwhile, there are a few key takeaways that are important to know:

  • The content collection that is created by the system with the course provider integration is mandatory for anyone to be able to access these courses. Employees must always be part of this default collection in order to access provider courses. If they aren’t, then the courses from the providers can’t be assigned or even be visible to them.

In short: there is currently an all or nothing limitation for external provider courses.

  • After learning this, you might be wondering why custom collections can't be used here, since they are meant for curated content (smart question!). What happens is that while we can still create custom collections (e.g., for developers, marketing, etc.), these don’t control access for these courses. They’re useful for grouping courses with a specific purpose, but this cannot include the courses from providers because it is their default collection that enables this.

  • The good news is we’re working on future improvements for a feature that will allow giving access directly via custom collections. For any information on this, we recommend reaching out to your assigned Customer Success Manager, and they will be able to follow up on any news.
