Although we cannot recommend one integration type over the other, we have listed the differences between the two below for your reference.
1. The Okta API integration is a real-time creation/update integration, meaning once you update an employee in Bob he will be updated in Okta. The SCIM integration is based on SCIM protocol where the IT team decides how often users will get updated in Okta.
2. The Okta SCIM integration allows to suspension/deactivate of users in Okta whereas the Okta API integration allows to deactivat them.
3. The Okta SCIM integration requires the IT team to create and manage complex mappings in Okta and the Okta API integration allows to manage all mappings directly in Bob via 1 Data mapping table.
4. The SCIM integration allows to import and sync groups created in Bob, then in Okta.
5. Users start with a staged status in Okta when using the Okta SCIM integration, however, the Okta API integration allows to start users with active/inactive status in Okta.
In general, the Okta SCIM integration setup requires more steps than the Okta API one which is built via the REST API protocol (an API key ).
We recommend coordinating with your IT team to ensure that the most relevant and suitable integration type is implemented in your Bob account.
