Format Currency Fields in Bob

Understand how currency fields behave in Bob and what you can (and can’t) customize when it comes to formatting.

Currency fields in Bob come with built-in formatting, so they automatically display values with comma separators and decimal places (for example, 50,000.00). This helps keep financial data consistent across the platform.

If you’re trying to adjust how these values appear, here’s what to keep in mind:

Currency fields will always include decimal places by design

They also automatically apply proper formatting, like thousand separators

If your goal is to avoid decimal places entirely, there isn’t a way to change this within a currency field. Instead, you have a couple of workarounds depending on your needs:

Use a Currency field when you want standardized formatting (recommended for most cases)

Use a Text field if you need full control over how the value appears (for example, displaying 50,000 without decimals). Keep in mind this removes numeric validation and consistency

In most cases, the Currency field type is the best option, as it ensures clean, professional formatting without requiring manual input.

Hey @Itamar Sahar,

Thanks for this. When we use currency fields in doc templates (using the employee field to autofill the data in the letter) the currency is written without formatting, eg like $4000 instead of $4,000. How can we keep the correct number formatting when using docs?

thanks

Ophelia

Hey @ophelia.smith,

Happy to help 😁

Currency fields in HiBob document templates are designed to automatically display values with comma separators and decimal places, for example $4,000.00. This formatting is built in for consistency and cannot be changed within the currency field itself.

If you are seeing values without formatting, such as $4000, it may be due to using a text field or a custom setup. For standardized formatting, always use the Currency field type, which ensures proper formatting with thousand separators and decimals.

If you need to display currency values without decimals or apply custom formatting, you can use a Text field, but this removes numeric validation and consistency. There is currently no option to remove decimal places from the Currency field or further customize its formatting within HiBob templates.

In summary:

Use Currency fields for automatic formatting, recommended.
Use Text fields for full control over appearance, not recommended for financial consistency.
