Dates for P60 Availability
In the UK, employers must provide each employee with a P60 form—a summary of their total pay and deductions for the tax year—by 31 May following the end of the tax year on 5 April. This document is essential for employees to verify their tax records, complete self-assessment tax returns (if required), and apply for tax credits or loans.
Who Should Receive a P60?
A P60 must be issued to all employees who were still employed on 5 April at the end of the tax year. This includes full-time, part-time, and temporary employees who have been on the payroll and subject to PAYE (Pay As You Earn) tax deductions. Employees who have left before this date will not receive a P60; instead, they should have received a P45 when they left employment.
How and When P60s Are Issued
UK payroll will generate P60s automatically at the end of the tax year. In HiBob’s UK Payroll platform, a notification appears in the 'Overview' section once P60s are ready to be sent. Employers can distribute them by navigating to 'Documents' > 'P60s' and sending them to eligible employees. If any P60s remain unsent, the system ensures compliance by automatically sending them on Thursday 14th May 2026 ensuring they are with employees by Friday 15th April.

Ensuring Accuracy Before Distribution
Before issuing P60s, employers must ensure that all employee details are accurate, including tax codes, previous P45 data, and employment records. Any discrepancies could affect tax calculations and employee records with HMRC.
P60 passwords
The passwords for employees to access their P60s is the same as accessing their payslips. The password for payslips is the last 4 characters of an Employee's NI number (including the letter in upper case). If an Employee does not have a National Insurance number in UK Payroll at the time their payslip is generated, when payroll is paid their password will be their DOB in the following format: DDMMYY.
By following these deadlines and best practices, employers can ensure compliance with HMRC regulations while providing employees with essential tax documents.
