If you’ve submitted your P11D through UK Payroll and aren’t sure what happens next, here’s how to check the status, what each status means, and what to do if something goes wrong.
How to check the status of your P11D submission:
The status of your P11D submission appears next to the relevant tax year in UK Payroll.
You’ll see one of the following:
Draft – The P11D has not been submitted.
Pending – The submission has been sent and is waiting for a response from HMRC.
Rejected – HMRC has rejected the submission.
Submitted – The P11D has been successfully submitted and accepted by HMRC.
If your submission shows as Pending, it means UK Payroll has sent the file, and we’re waiting for HMRC’s confirmation.
HMRC processing time:
After a successful submission, HMRC may take a few days to update their portal.
If your submission shows as Submitted in UK Payroll, but you can’t yet see the update in the HMRC portal
This is usually due to HMRC processing time. We recommend waiting a few days before raising a query.
Using the Correlation ID to confirm submission:
Each P11D submission includes a Correlation ID, which is displayed in the UK Payroll UI.
If you need to confirm the submission directly with HMRC, you can:
- Use the Correlation ID as proof of submission.
- Provide it to HMRC when checking the status on their side.
This ID confirms that the file was successfully transmitted from UK Payroll.
What happens if my P11D submission fails?
If your P11D submission is rejected:
- UK Payroll will automatically send you an email notification.
- The submission status will show as Rejected.
- You’ll need to review the error, make the necessary amendments, and re-submit the P11D.
Once re-submitted, the status will update again based on HMRC’s response.
If your submission remains in Pending for an extended period, or you receive a rejection and aren’t sure how to resolve it, review the submission details and Correlation ID first before contacting HMRC.
